I would like to personally let all of my new Halau Ohana know how wonderful it was meeting each and every one of you this past weekend! I have been “Hawaiian At Heart” since I was a little Keiki. I have been blessed with being able to visit all the Hawaiian Islands several times and yes I left my heart there. But this new opportunity in my life has been amazing. My hula lessons in Alabama started me on this amazing journey. I never dreamed I would be a member of a true Halau with such a gracious Kumu and Hula Sisters! Long Distance learning has some challenges but it’s worth it. I just wish I lived closer so I could join in personally with all of you more often. Performing along beside all of you helped me so much. I pretty much knew the steps and hand movements but the “flow” was more of a challenge until I performed along side all of you. Your “Mana” was definitely felt! Anyhow just wanted to share the Aloha with all of you and can’t wait to see all of you next month! 🙂😍

“Congratulations on your HUGE success for your 2nd Pae’aina! Everyone should be very proud of what you contributed, including preparation of hula/food/costumes/everything, getting up early and making the venue ready, yourselves ready, making all the guests feel welcome. Your kumu looked happy and calm, that is because I personally believe that all the haumana took care of her needs. That is not easy to accomplish. Anyone can dance hula if you practice, but not anyone can have the aloha spirit. I could feel the aloha spirit from everyone, Halau Hula O’Lewa Kapakai. Mahalo nui for always sharing your aloha with our halau. I could see so much improvements in your hula…keep practicing, keep on learning because there is always something to improve on or to learn about hula.”
I thought I was joining to dance and enjoy Polynesian culture but I gained so much more. Until you experience the Ohana (family) of the Halau you cannot imagine how welcome you will feel and how it will seem these people have known and loved you forever. It’s so much fun, such great exercise, colorful costumes, and joy. My husband says I glow and I feel hula has made me come alive.
This is a wonderful lifestyle!
Regardless of your size, shape, or age you will feel welcome and enjoy hula with our Halau!

“ we take students that have never danced before, and turn them into Hula Dancers! both men, women, kids, grandmothers!! Anyone that’s danced before, you’ll catch on much faster than most. My biggest reward as owner/choreographer is the dedication from these students. We are Ohana, & everyone has a clear understanding of the protocols & structure of what we’re about. I was never more proud than after this year’s recital, PA’E AINA! The opening ceremony was so powerful, & Im so proud to be your Kumu. You all are so beautiful in spirit, & your dancing level is increasing so quickly. Lub you all, Kumu ”
